Change from the ground up: Using an interprofessional approach to design targeted interventions & create tangible change

Presenters will discuss the origin and growth of the St Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH)/WUSM Department of Pediatrics Taskforce on Teamwork and Cultural Competency (T2C2), an interprofessional working group tasked with creating specific, targeted, strategic interventions within SLCH with a goal of immediate, tangible results to advance a culture of teamwork and respect, improve cultural competency, and improve patient satisfaction by minimizing disparities in care. Discussion will center around the creation of initiatives around improving food access for families within the hospital and improving team communication and interprofessional respect.

Objectives:

  • Review the strategic design of T2C2
  • Understand the stepwise approach used to create initiatives incorporating perspectives and needs from multiple professional roles
  • Begin to consider how to utilize this stepwise approach in issues across the Washington University Medical Campus
